What does Oxford Shirt mean?
An Oxford shirt means different things to different people, including being made from a special basket weave fabric design to having a button on the collar to secure it. Our ladies oxford shirt collection is made from genuine cotton oxford weave fabric, but they do not have the button down collar as found on our mens range.
The Origins Of Oxford Fabric
The fabric that makes the Oxford Shirt was invented in the 19th century in a weaving mill in Scotland. It created a fabric where two yarns were woven into each other to create a new basket weave configuration. The result was a fabric that was durable but breathable. The shirts, tops and other items made from the fabric were originally named after the country’s elite universities and later the Oxford name prevailed as most popular on sale today.
