The History of Floral Prints
The history of floral prints is a long one and somewhat uncertain. Often museum garments including types of shirt and blouse can be found adorned with flowers. Many believe floral clothing originated in Asia where hand printed silk fabrics were available. Over the course of many centuries, floral prints have turned up in mens and womens fashion, but they were often reserved for the wealthy and upper classes as in the absence of modern printing methods the floral embellishments were done using hand painting and weaving.
As the Print process evolved during the industrial revolution Floral Printed tops became more widespread as new printed fabrics became more accessible. The Flower Power movement of the sixties saw vibrant floral shirts, tops, skirts and even nightwear became the norm and whilst the movement faded the floral prints remained in a more subtle version in the years that followed.
Today, there is a seemingly endless variety of floral prints available, including bespoke versions, as printing techniques have become more sophisticated and easier to reach. Each year Liberty in London releases large numbers of new seasonal prints on cotton for both fashion and home product use. From curtains to underwear, for men, women, boys, girls and even baby clothes the use of floral fabric is ubiquitous.
Printed Ladies Shirts
The prevalence of new printed fabrics, particularly floral, was embraced by clothing designers leading to an abundance of beautiful garments. Floral fabrics lend themselves perfectly to women’s shirts and blouses so they became available in numbers very quickly and a floral print blouse found its way onto the top of many womens wish list. Today availability and variety is still high in a number of brands and shows no sign of abating. Printed Womens Floral Shirts and tops are here to stay, be it summer or winter.
