What Is Paisley ?

Paisley is an ornamental design which consists of curved teardrop shapes. The term "paisley" comes from the name of the town of Paisley in West Scotland, where In the 19 th century, this Scottish town became the leading producer of paisley shawls. At its peak from c.1850 -1860 the town of Paisley employed 6,000 weavers. Paisley is known by other names in International circles and the design dates back hundreds of years.

The Origins Of the Paisley Pattern

Paisley is also known as buta or boteh, and is believed to have originated in Persia. At first it was hand printed or embroidered on fabrics, but is now printed onto fabric in most instances. In terms of use, this ornate pattern has been seen on men’s ties, shirts, dresses, blouses, skirts, boys and girl clothing, jackets, suits as well as household furnishings.
