Our latest blog is dedicated to stylish men’s coats. While we are very proud of the selection of men’s coats and jackets we offer, it actually remains a difficult topic to discuss. The reason for this difficulty is that true style is unique to each person. It is very much individualistic. As a result we can only offer advice on what we consider a stylish men’s coat or jacket, but ultimately it comes down to what you feel comfortable in.
We have experience in this field. For three years we sold our luxury British made clothing through our flagship store in Bury St Edmunds. It was an exciting opportunity to sell directly to customers in person; something you cannot fully realise when selling online. What was evident in nearly every situation was that many men were interested to expand their current wardrobe, but lacked the confidence to actually do it. They needed reassurance from us that certain designs would enhance their style and offer a new dimension to their outfits.
What makes a stylish men coat?

Quality Jacket Materials
A stylish coat or jacket always starts with the materials and the first one everyone will see is the outer shell. Not only does this cloth need to look luxurious and drape well, but with the ever changing British weather it needs to be functional too. With this in the back of our mind we turned to famous British mill - British Millerain who have been creating the finest water resistant fabrics for over a century. In our specific case we selected a 8 oz dry coated double bonded twill cotton which is not only waterproof but looks and feels fantastic. The benefit to a dry finish jacket as opposed to traditional waxed jacket is that the wax doesn’t come off.
This amazing fabric is used in our flagship trench coats for both ladies and men along with our field jackets and Harrington jackets.
With the outer shell fabric sorted we turned our attention to the jacket lining. As always we set out to create the finest clothing ever made so decided to source the lining from our shirting mills. The jackets include a traditional classic check cotton fabric that is not only really soft and comfortable but adds real style to each coat. In the case of our trench coats you will find the same check fabric used in the under collar.
Other materials we use include heavy duty YKK zips and thick buffalo horn buttons. These are indestructible additions which ensure longevity of our coats. All our clothing should be viewed as a long term investment.

All our jackets and coats are made to order. Our British made wax jacket and coats are hand cut and manufactured at our Suffolk factory in England using traditional British tailoring and manufacturing techniques.
There are many different ways to make a coat or jacket. In many ways we over engineer our coats and jackets. As a result they take far longer to produce than other brands. However when you add up all these extra steps they really do make a big difference to the final coat. The quote ‘more than the sum of its parts’ really does ring true. The final result is not just a jacket that looks fantastic but really with last the test of time.
Jacket and Coat Cut
While quality of materials and manufacturing is important, no one can get away from the fact that the overall fit is really important. We have spent a huge amount of time perfecting our block and fit for all our jackets. With sizes from medium to XX large we consider our jackets and coats fitted but not slim fit. If you are looking for a more generous cut or are looking to layer up then we recommend going up a coat size.
Designing a modern coat and jacket
The design of the coats is also very important and cannot be understated. This skill is left to our founder and head designer; Paul Brown who carefully blends tradition with modern practically. This is very evident in both our trench coat and field jacket designs. They play homage to the original coats and incorporate many of their original features but are finished in a final design that is right up to date.

Style Option 1 : The Trench Coat

Our mens double breasted trench coat is our flagship product. It incorporates everything that is great about our brand. Features we are particular fond of include the antique copper D rings and eyelets on the both the main belt and sleeve straps that contrast wonderfully against the British Millerain twill cloths. In addition traditional features such as the rear wind breaker, epaulettes and gun flap ensure that key historical details have been fully consolidated into the modern design.
Our men’s trench coats are not only stylish but also practical and very versatile. They can easily be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. A good example is our black trench coat. Pair with black chinos and a tie and it is your latest office outfit. However try a pair of our lovat chinos and a black denim shirt and you have the perfect casual weekend outfit.
Style Option 2 : Field Jacket Made in England

Like the trench coat our field jacket is a stylish addition to your wardrobe. Many men go for the traditional navy or khaki options, however if you are looking for something different and a great work jacket consider our grey field jacket.
With regards to styling our field jacket consider pairing with a smart men’s tailored shirt and a pair of corduroy or
moleskin trousers.
Style Option 3 : The Harrington Jacket

Compared to the trench and field jacket, the Harrington is far more simple and cleaner in design. It is easy to wear and a more casual option compared to the other two. The perfect stylish option for the weekend or summer holiday. Pair our grey Harrington with our French navy chinos for the evening. Alternatively add it to your summer wardrobe and pair with our blue linen shirt and white shorts for a great contrast of colours.
Style Option 4 : The Bomber Jacket

Unlike the previous three jackets, our bomber jackets are made from standard cotton twill and moleskin. Like the Harrington they are a more casual option. If you are feeling bold try pairing our navy moleskin bomber with our mens red trousers.
