Chinos History
It is believed that The ‘Chino’ got its name in the Philippines, during Spanish colonial rule in the 19th century. In the Philippines, members of the army liked to wear trousers made from twill. Twill has its roots in China and at that time most of it was imported from there. As Spanish was the official language of the country at that time and the word “Chino” is the Spanish word for “Chinese”. After World War 2 many returning GIs were often seen in chinos and they became a wardrobe staple on Ivy league college campuses. Now they are the go to weekend or after work casual trouser choice and can be dressed down or up to suit the occasion. Their versatility makes them particularly useful for travel and holidays. Although subtly different, Khakis and Chinos are often interchanged in the US causing some confusion between Khaki chinos which are a particular colour, and Khaki Pants which are in fact a more casual version than mens chinos, better known for their more utilitarian appearance.Fabric
Traditionally chinos were made from a 100% Cotton Fabric with a steep twill construction, occasionally mercerised to give a slight sheen. The durable and comfortable fabric is used extensively in military uniforms. More recently Chinos have included additions of elastane for comfort and fit. The range of colours available in this fabric is now very extensive.

Styling our mens chinos
Navy Chinos
Our navy chinos remain our most popular colour and it is easy to see why. They are without doubt the most versatile option and work well with every conceivable outfit. For a smart casual look try our striped linen shirt with cream trainers or navy chinos with a pink shirt.
Beige and Stone Chinos
Beige and stone chinos are second and third choice for our customers for the same reason as navy in that they can be dressed up or down. Our stone pair look great with a navy linen shirt and beige with a classic Oxford button down collar shirt.Red and Tobacco Chinos
Red chinos is a great choice for those men who have more confidence and look really stylish with blue loafer shoes, a crisp white shirt and our navy moleskin bomber jacket. Tobacco chinos is a good option for men looking for an alternative to traditional colours like navy and stone, but not as bold as red. We have styled the tobacco chinos with a more formal outfit including our 3M stone gilet with our flagship navy trench coat along with a wool tie and blue shirt and brown loafers.
Grey and White Chinos
Another good colour choice is grey which can be both smart and casual. We have styled our grey chinos with grey trainers and a blue polo shirt. White is certainly a late spring or summer option and always looks great with a light blue linen shirt.
Black and Brown Chinos
Black is the most formal option and we have styled it with our black trench coat. We also have chocolate brown which we have paired with a striped double cuff shirt and pink tie.

Q & A
What Are the best chinos?
We really believe we offer the best men's chinos and are exceptional value for money when compared to other brands including, Crew, Reiss, Dockers, levi mens chinos and m&s mens chinos. We don’t settle for anything other than the best and appreciate that all men are different and therefore you have to cater for all sizes. In so many instance men come to us because they can’t get there size on the high street anymore. Further so many brands are always cutting costs to try and offer a lower price or increase their margins which lead to an inferior product. We use only the finest fabric, threads and each pair of chinos is proudly hand cut and made in England.
What is the difference between chinos and khakis?
Chinos (or pants in US) are typically made with a lightweight cotton or cotton blend fabric (in our case a hint of elastane for extra comfort and manoeuvrability) and have visible stitching, which gives them a more finished, formal look. That said if styled correctly they can still look great with trainers and a t shirt.
Khakis are made with a heavier weight cotton fabric. The stitching on khaki’s is normally hidden. Khakis are typically thought of as more casual because of the sturdier cloth used.
What are mens chinos?
Chinos are a type of trouser normally made from cotton twill. They are incredibly versatile and can be worn casually or formally with a jacket and tie.
What to wear with mens blue chinos?
Mens blue chinos along with stone and beige are incredibly versatile colours and go with almost everything. Depending on your colour palette we really like styling them with a pink top and brown loafers or Chelsea boots. If pink is not your colour a crisp white shirt like an Oxford or light blue shirt work equally well as does a brown, navy or stone jacket like our Harrington’s, field Jacket and trench coats.
How to wear chinos mens? What to wear with chinos mens?
Two very popular search terms and it really depends on your dress sense. Chinos are incredibly versatile in nature and can easily be styled casually or more formally. Nothing is off limits including wearing them with a polo shirt and trainers or wearing them with a tie and waistcoat. The only real consideration is your choice of colour. There are the staple colours that are always popular including stone and navy but don’t be put off by other colours like tobacco and grey.
