Linen remains a popular option for our ladies shirts, especially during the warmer months of the year or holidays abroad. Our linen cloth is sourced from famous shirting mill Soktas in Turkey and is hand cut and made at our factory in England.

We use a block that includes traditional British shirt making features including a split back yoke for comfort around the shoulders and two darts in the back to ensure a nice fit around the waist. For those looking for a more relaxed fit we recommend going up one dress size. Sizes start from a 6 and go up to a 20.

Both our ladies and men’s shirts are made using only single needle stitching throughout which increases the production time of each shirt but yields a finish and stitch quality that is second to none. With a great shirt it is not just what you see that determines the quality; but also what you don’t see. The collar and cuffs are made with a sewn in interfacing from DHJ in France – a world leader in interfacing. A sewn in interfacing is a more expensive and time consuming way of constructing the collar and cuffs, but again ensures longevity to the shirt or blouse. Cheaper brands will revert to a fusible interfacing, however after several washes the glue becomes unstuck from the outer fabric and you will notice a bubbling effect.

Is linen shirt more comfortable than cotton?
Most people buy linen for warmer weather and its characteristics certainly indicate it performs better than cotton. The IMT (moisture permeability index) is a ratio between insulation and breathability and linen scores the highest with 0.388 followed by cotton at 0.386. However it also depends on the weave of the linen or cotton as some are heavier and have a tighter or looser weave. While linen may be better suited to warmer climates, cotton fabrics remain very comfortable and breathable which explains why it is such a popular choice around the world. Our shirting mills use long staple cotton to weave incredibly soft luxurious fabrics and is the same cotton that is woven to create the finest bed linen.

Are linen shirts worth it?
If you are travelling somewhere warm then a linen top is definitely worth investing in. Further despite the criticism that linen easily creases, we have found that if you hang the shirt straight out of the washing machine, ironing is kept to a minimum.
Does linen wear better than cotton?
Linen is actually 30% stronger than cotton, so yes it does wear very well. That said we use only the finest cotton cloths from the best shirting mills that use long staple US Pima and Egyptian cotton so if you buy either shirt from us you can be confident it will last wash after wash.
